Carson City is the Capital of Nevada, with a population of approximately 57,000, and is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is 30 miles south of Reno and 20 miles east of Lake Tahoe, and as such, offers unparalleled recreational opportunities. Our region enjoys a mild four season climate and world-class outdoor activities.
 
As the seat of state government, and a center for federal government, the government sector employs about one out of four city residents and is the second largest industry, providing a stable employment environment.  Carson City is the manufacturing center of the state, with 14% of the employed workforce in manufacturing, compared to the state average of 4%. 
 
The “Rating Guide to Life in America’s Small Cities” ranked Carson City as the 19th best “micropolitan” area in the U.S.  According to the authors of “Boomtown USA”, it is one of the top 50 communities in the West for the greatest opportunities for business, jobs and lifestyle and is a favorite relocation spot for companies interested in low taxes, affordable housing, and an abundant labor force. 
 
Residents enjoy quality-of-life attributes such as low crime rates, a strong sense of community pride, the presence of a strong regional hospital: Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center, and easy access to government officials and elected leaders. The average commute time is less than 18 minutes. Carson City is home to 789 acres of city park land, 30 park locations, 15 ski areas within a 35—60 minute drive, six museums and the beautiful Carson River, which flows along the east side of town.
 
A February 2007 online article in Business Week magazine listed Carson City as #3 among the top 10 strongest real estate and business investment opportunities across the country, based on the presence of a robust arts community. And a study in the March 2007 issue of Women's Wear Daily ranked Carson City as one of the top five U.S. metro areas with the highest retail growth.
Carson City is home to Western Nevada College, serving more than 5,300 students each semester. Carson City has attracted many major retailers, including WalMart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Burlington Coat Factory, and JC Penney. Borders, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Trader Joe's and Best Buy have also opened recently in our area.
